A "Mid Winter Update"

I regularly see questions on the facebook page regarding 'when do we start back'?

So here's the information that's required.

Minis (P1-P7) - 1st March scheduled

S1 & S2 - 1st March scheduled

Under 15s & Under 16s have SRU league games currently scheduled for Jan, Feb & March

Carthakids is very much dedicated to "better weather rugby" and as a result we take a winter break. Given the weather we have experienced during January, many of you will understand why. The Minis, S1, S2 take this break for several reasons

1. The weather can be horrible 2. We do not want to put kids off. 3. It is very difficult to learn anything meaningful with cold hands, wet feet and rain or snow blowing in your face 4. We ALL need a break sometimes.

The Under 15s and Under 16s continue to play through the winter. Something which I and many others think is completely bonkers. They play then because the SRU have deemed this to be a good time to have leagues. Crazy, if you ask me. The Under 15s have had all games cancelled in January, all of which will be rescheduled into February, March and maybe April - so why not just schedule them for then anyway?

We are intending on holding a Coaches' Conference on the 8th February, to which all Coaches have been invited - anyone else who is interested in helping out in anyway - please feel free to attend. More details will be posted soon.

It may be that at this Conference some of the Coaches will discuss the possibility - or otherwise - of starting training or some sort of activity prior to 1st March. This will be one of many topics for the day. Until notified otherwise, folks should take it that current 'start back' dates stand as around the begining of March and that if any changes to this occur, then folks will be notified both here and on Facebook.

Thanks, Stephen

CarthaKids Rugby

Our website
We're rugby people, not web people. We've put the site together ourselves to provide basic info & details for Mums & Dads, Guardians, Carers of our Minis & Midis sections. It's not perfect, but it does the job. We endeavour to keep the basic info up to date and we like trying to make it look better .... so it's possible its look will change over the next week or two .. before "settling down" for the season.

If you have any info you want to see on the site email Stephen Running with your suggestions and we'll see what we can do.

*NEW* Fixture links

This season's fixtures are nowavailable by clicking the appropriate link below.

Minis (P1-P7)

S1 & S2

Under 15

Under 16

'New Parents' - please read our Parents Handbook - it needs updating but it has some very useful info re kit

"Parents Handbook'

Our Parents'
handbook can be downloaded here, with info on CarthaKids and some useful suggestions on how to prepare and get your child ready for rugby on Sundays at Cartha.

With over 100 kids in the Minis section, phoning & even texting everyone is almost impossible. As such we have a "Comms Strategy" which goes as follows

Weekly happenings
are posted on frontpage of website & updated...even on a Sunday morning, if need be.

2. Emails
- we send emails each week, confirming what is on the website. With kids joining at different times of the year, email groups can be hard to keep up to date, so if you're not getting one, email me using minisconvenor@carthakids.com with your name, your kids name and Primary group & it will be added.

3. The CarthaKidsRugby Facebook Page
we have a facebook page and many of us visit daily...Game day plans, changes, lift requests etc - FB provides a very quick way of getting inof out. I'd urge you to join

4. Twitter
Instant way of getting info out - I tweet under the name @Carthakids - usually all about rugby so follow and instant updates will appear.

A note to remind you of our "boot exchange" programme. Kids grow quickly, they outgrow their boots. We try to make it easier by encouraging parents to hand in any boots that the kids have outgrown and then to see if there is a pair in the pool that they can swap them for - don't buy a pair without checking with us first..... don't forget to hand them in too! ALSO - rugby strips.....we're always looking for small strips, particularly for the new tinies.
